Travel Clinic

Whether you are travelling for a holiday, visiting family and friends, heading overseas for work or planning the trip of a lifetime, making sure you are properly prepared for your destination is an important part of your travel plans.

At our private Travel Clinic in Ringwood, we provide personalised travel health advice, vaccinations and medication to help you prepare for a safe and healthy trip.

We can provide an in-depth travel consultation to establish which vaccinations, medications and precautions may be appropriate for you based on your destination, itinerary, planned activities and individual medical needs.

Where vaccinations or medication are recommended, these can then be arranged through our clinic, helping to make preparing for your trip as straightforward as possible.

We recommend booking your travel consultation at least 8 weeks before you are due to travel wherever possible, to allow sufficient time for any necessary vaccinations, courses of treatment and other arrangements.

Why visit a Travel Clinic before travelling?

Different destinations can present different health risks, and recommended precautions can vary considerably depending on where you are travelling, how long you will be away and what you plan to do while you are there.

A specialist travel consultation allows us to look at your trip and health requirements individually rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

During your consultation, we can discuss your travel plans, relevant medical history, previous vaccinations and any destination-specific considerations before advising which vaccinations, preventative medications or other precautions may be appropriate.

Where required, we can then arrange for your travel vaccinations and medication to be provided in-house.

When should I book my Travel Clinic appointment?

We recommend contacting us at least 8 weeks before you travel.

Some travel vaccinations require multiple doses given over a period of time, while others may need to be administered a certain amount of time before travel.

Booking early gives us the best opportunity to complete any recommended vaccination schedules and make the necessary arrangements before your departure.

Travelling in less than 8 weeks?

Please still contact us. Depending on your destination, existing vaccination history and individual circumstances, there may still be vaccinations, medications or other precautions that we can provide.

Travel Vaccinations Available

In our clinics we are currently offering treatment for the following allergens. If you would like to discuss an allergen not listed below, please contact us.

Cholera vaccination may be recommended for some travellers depending on their destination, planned activities and access to safe food, water and medical care.

Hepatitis A can be contracted through contaminated food and water. Vaccination may be recommended for travellers visiting countries where Hepatitis A is more common.

Hepatitis B is transmitted through infected blood and bodily fluids. Vaccination may be recommended depending on your destination, length and type of travel, planned activities and individual risk.

Japanese Encephalitis is a mosquito-borne viral infection found predominantly in parts of Asia. Vaccination may be considered for certain travellers depending on their destination, length of stay and planned activities.

The Meningitis ACWY vaccine protects against four groups of meningococcal bacteria. It may be recommended for travel to certain countries and can be a requirement for some travellers, including those undertaking particular pilgrimages.

Rabies is present in many parts of the world and is transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal, usually following a bite, scratch or lick to broken skin.

Pre-exposure Rabies vaccination may be recommended depending on your destination, activities, length of stay and likely access to appropriate medical treatment.

Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE) is a viral infection transmitted primarily through the bite of an infected tick. Vaccination may be considered for travellers visiting affected areas, particularly where outdoor activities are planned.

Typhoid fever is an infection that can be contracted through contaminated food and water. Vaccination may be recommended when travelling to certain parts of the world, alongside careful food and water hygiene.

Yellow Fever is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes and occurs in parts of Africa and Central and South America.

Some countries may recommend Yellow Fever vaccination, while others may require evidence of vaccination for entry depending on where you are travelling from or through.

Please contact our team to discuss Yellow Fever vaccination and certification for your trip.

Malaria is a potentially serious infection transmitted by mosquitoes and is present in a number of countries around the world.

Depending on where you are travelling, malaria prevention medication (malaria prophylaxis) may be recommended.

The medication required can vary according to your destination, medical history and individual circumstances. A travel consultation is therefore required for malaria prophylaxis medication so that the appropriate options can be discussed with you.

Your consultation also provides an opportunity to discuss other measures that can help reduce your risk of mosquito bites while travelling.

I already know which travel vaccinations I need – do I need a consultation?

If you only require vaccinations and already know which vaccinations you need, please contact our team.

We can discuss your requirements and arrange for your travel vaccinations to take place at our Ringwood clinic where appropriate.

If you are unsure which vaccinations you need, require travel medication such as malaria prophylaxis, or would like personalised advice about the health requirements for your destination, please arrange a Travel Clinic consultation.
